floral open-back jumpsuit

Apparel Design, Textile Design | Personal Project | 2022

Floral-print jumpsuits, like those worn by women at weddings and other dressy events, make up an individual trend that I personally adore: I love the electric mix between the timeless elegance of floral imagery and the silhouette's distinguishable modernity. I sought to create a menswear-leaning version of this trend, a piece that inordinately pushes the boundaries of what male bodies can wear in formal spaces, beyond suits and tuxedos. My resulting design is this structured, tailored jumpsuit made in a striking black-and-white floral print, with cutouts and an open back incorporated for increased allure and glamour.

I browsed through numerous options of printed and embroidered fabrics to try to find a textile that matched as closely as possible the floral print that I was envisioning. After deciding that none of the choices I saw would support my design successfully, I moved forward instead with producing a custom-printed textile. I created this digital print by compositing various individual photographs of flowers and leaves together, executing my desired scale, configurations, and coloring. After completing the print design, I submitted the image of my pattern to a company for printing; the fabric I ordered is a heavy satin, which has a medium, slightly stiff weight and a surface ideal for displaying saturated colors with a subtle sheen.
