throw & catch, part 1

Live Project Industry | University of Westminster, MFA Menswear with Professional Experience | 2024

Taking inspiration from a unique part of my personal identity and background, I produced this project around my cherished adolescent history as a juggler and a member of the JUGHEADS Youth Juggling Company. The research process involved the compilation of all of the graphic T-shirts I had acquired over the years—both from the JUGHEADS program and from larger juggling festivals that I’ve attended—as well as archival photographs and videos of me during my active participation in JUGHEADS. I took particular notice of the repeated styles of clothing that I wore in many of these pictures—most specifically, those graphic T-shirts in loose, oversized fits over large cargo shorts—and this uniform, so to speak, and its stylistic and functional details served as the main points of inspiration for garment development.

Graphic elements materialized around the fictional concept of my own juggling-plus-fashion company and its title: “Throw & Catch.” A whole core “Throw & Catch” identity was created, alongside variant visualizations and graphic designs, as inspired by the similar ways that JUGHEADS’s brand and general juggling memorabilia were presented through various, expanded illustrative expressions.
